Can comfort food get any more comforting than grilled cheese? I think not. This is a meal we’re all familiar with because it’s simple, fast, hearty and delicious. Melted cheese all gooey between slices of buttered, browned, crispy bread. Can it get any better?

The book is broken down into 8 themes from Just Cheese, sandwiches loaded with cheese and a few extras such as roasted peppers, to Veggies and Cheese which treats us to Artichokes Dip Grilled Cheese, to Old Favorites & Modern Sides. Page after page, there are inspired recipes for this childhood favorite meal using farmhouse cheeses and artisan breads. And don’t worry if you can’t find a particular cheese, she offers substitutions which are readily available in most supermarkets.

Aside from the recipes, Laura instructs us how to properly cook a grilled cheese sandwich from how to prep the cheese (it’s all about grating) to the type of pan to use to various breads. This section, at the beginning of the book, is an important section so don’t skip over it.

And if you’re looking for a tomato soup recipe to go with your sandwich, you’ll find one in this book.

The recipes are scrumptious and the pictures are beautiful so my advice is not to crack open this book unless you have some cheddar or at least American cheese in the fridge because you are going to want to make a grilled cheese sandwich. I promise.

Dinner for us will be, you guessed it, grilled cheese sandwiches. My husband is going to have a traditional sandwich but I’m going to try the Due Due, a sandwich of melted Brie and Fontina. I can’t wait.

One more thing, April is National Grilled Cheese Month. Just in case you need a reason to add one more book to your collection. 🙂
